As soon as I heard that Tina Turner had died I knew I wanted to sketch a portrait of her. My mum passed her driving test the summer I turned 16, and she played Tina Turner's Simply the Best album on repeat. I can't hear the name Tina Turner without the strains of Steamy Windows coming into my mind. In later life I learned to love dancing to Proud Mary!
I drew this sketch in a different way, instead of putting pressure on myself to make it perfect I just banged it out really quickly thinking about lines and shapes, rather than fretting about perfection. Lesson learned to have faith in the process!
