About me....

Hello. I’m Sarah, the face behind The House With the Blue Door. I’m an artist and writer.
I have worked as a teacher, lecturer and journalist, but in September 2020 when I was made redundant I realised that I’d been given the perfect opportunity to do what I’ve wanted to do my entire life; work as an artist.
Everything I’ve done in my working career is now informing my artistic practice. My work based around sketchbooks, watercolours and ink. I learned calligraphy when I was child and ink pens inform my style and my writing – I love adding a calligraphic flourish to my paintings! I also enjoy collecting my work together in book form, which I did with my Cleethorpes Sketchbook – a collection of my paintings and sea-inspired quotes that celebrate the beauty of this part of the north-east coast.
As well as my paintings, I am also a practitioner of mental wellbeing journals. This is the daily practice of writing, creating, illustrating and recording. I was first drawn to this artistic discipline when I discovered that it really helped with my mental health. It’s a mix of bullet journaling, creativity and art therapy. I enjoy doing this so much and believe so much in its effectiveness that I now offer workshops so I can teach this technique to others.
