Art and gardening

As part of my #dycp funded year, I've been doing an online course with UAL about book illustration. This week's project was inspired by my garden, and also a book I'm reading about at the minute called The Well-Gardened Mind by Sue Stuart Smith. This work is really different from my daily sketchbook work, as it combined print, drawing, charcoal and collage. I really enjoyed playing with the idea of the garden as an imaginative construct as well as its importance for mental wellbeing. I just played with art materials for a few hours with no expectation that I would produce anything of worth, and that was really freeing. It's also leading me up to next's year main project of basing my art work around working in my garden, and creating a green space that will benefit my mental health.
