The bear he was never without

A journal page about some thoughts about teenage years, and the things we lose along the way.

Have you got Boo?
The bear he was never without
lies forgotten, in his room.
No longer draped around his neck.
No longer his constant friend.
The bear wears the scars of childhood;
a chewed foot, an unstitching nose,
the bobbled fur of too many washes,
the floppiness from cuddles and clutches.
The bear has gone to that liminal space
where he's scorned and overlooked,
as the boy leaves himself along the path,
and stumbles through a wilder place.
And here the bear will stay,
until the way-finding years are done,
when he'll be noticed once again.
An old friend, remembered,
to remind him
of what's been lost along the way.
