The common reed

The common reed, or phragmites, are a real feature of parts of Grimsby that still retain the wetlands that were once part of this area. I love them - they would have been a familiar sight to my ancestors, not to mention being a useful material for thatching. They look glorious silhouetted against sunsets, like this picture, or backlight on a bright summer's day! x
