So very happy to announce that I've been awarded a Large Project Grant by Create NEL to do more research into the East and West Marshes of Grimsby. Tht title is We Are Marshy Folk and will celebrate the Grimbarians and Meggies who once lived on the marshy edge.
My nanna was born 'over the marsh' in Elsenham Road, and my dad grew up on Kent Street on the East Marsh and will be dedicated to them.
This project isn't about the last 200 years of industrialised fishing that have dominated the coast, but the actual marshes that once surrounded Grimsby. This comes on the back of the Under the Shadow of the Water Tower project that I did last year. I've always been fascinated by water and land drainage, and my work on the Fitties has made me reaslise that this coast was once threaded with water, creeks, salt marshes and inlets. Can't wait to get started! x
